Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program Services
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) are both forms of outpatient therapy, but they are much more structured, with higher levels of accountability and more frequent treatment. A PHP is typically more intensive than an IOP and may involve 24/7 supervision, possible medical supervision, and a highly structured schedule of therapeutic activities. An IOP is often a step down from a PHP and, while still providing structure, accountability, and therapeutic support, allows the patient more flexibility to attend to family or work obligations and return home at night to sleep in their own bed.
The PHP/IOP programs provide a wide range of clinically intensive treatment services. Services are provided in a structured environment for a minimum of nine hours of counseling per week. The patient and their family receive education and information regarding:
- Symptoms, effects, and treatment of mental illness
- Substance use
- Co-dependency and its effect on substance use treatment
- The implementation of self-care rehabilitation (including, but not limited to, Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Narcotics Anonymous, Nar-Anon, and Alateen)
- Community agencies/resources available during treatment services
Services provide individual and group substance use counseling, education on the health consequences of substance use and dependence, and relapse prevention. Psychiatric services will be provided for clients diagnosed with co-occurring disorders or who require psychiatric intervention and assessment.
This care approximates ASAM PPC-2R Level II.1
Outpatient Treatment Services
The outpatient treatment program (OP) provides regularly scheduled individual, group, and/or family counseling for no less than nine hours per week. The program includes, but is not limited to, individual, group, and family counseling and education on mental health issues, recovery, and wellness.
These comprehensive, coordinated, and defined services vary in intensity depending on the patient’s individual needs. The outpatient program addresses a variety of conditions, including, but not limited to:
- Situational stressors
- Family relations
- Interpersonal relations
- Mental health issues
- Life span issues
- Psychiatric illnesses
- Eating or sexual disorders
- Symptoms of abuse, domestic violence, and other traumas
This level of care approximates ASAM PPC-2R Level I.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program Services
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an opioid addiction treatment approach that combines behavioral counseling with stabilizing medication. It is not a prescription for medication alone. Instead, the focus is on counseling through individualized custom patient care under the guidance of a medical doctor who addresses the cravings and withdrawal symptoms of the patient.
Upon intake, a licensed physician will provide a medical evaluation of the patient and determine if MAT is appropriate for the individual. Options for MAT include medications such as:
Each of these medications has different properties and should be discussed with the licensed physician to determine the best option for the individual. Clear Steps Recovery will work in tandem with outside entities to meet the MAT needs of our clients.
