We offer programs that allow clients to stay at home while receiving the help they need. This setup will enable you to continue daily activities like work or school. Mental Health Support in IOP at Our Londonderry Center

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Sometimes, our minds need a little help, just like our bodies do. Intensive Outpatient mental health support is about giving that help without making you stay in a hospital or clinic.
It's like going to a doctor's appointment but for your feelings and thoughts. You visit, talk, learn, and then return to your daily life. It's a way to understand yourself better, handle tough emotions, and learn ways to cope with life's ups and downs.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions

What is an intensive outpatient program (IOP)?
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides structured addiction treatment, typically around nine hours of therapy per week, while you live at home and keep up with work, school, or family. It is more involved than standard outpatient care but does not require overnight stays.
How does the IOP at Clear Steps Recovery work?
You attend scheduled sessions several times a week, including individual therapy, group therapy, and family support, then return to your daily life after each session. Every plan is personalized to your needs and stage of recovery.
How is IOP different from PHP (day treatment) and standard outpatient?
Partial hospitalization (PHP, or day treatment) is the most intensive outpatient level at roughly 20 or more hours per week; IOP is a step down at about nine to twelve hours per week; standard outpatient is the least intensive. Many clients step down from PHP to IOP to outpatient as they progress.
Does insurance cover intensive outpatient treatment?
Most insurance plans cover IOP. Read how Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts, Ambetter, NH Medicaid and TRICARE and VA Community Care handle intensive outpatient care at our Londonderry center, then let our admissions team verify your exact benefit, so reach out any time to get started.
Who is IOP a good fit for?
IOP works well for people who need structured support but have a stable home environment and responsibilities like work or school, including those stepping down from a higher level of care or those new to recovery.
How long can you stay in an IOP program?
There is no fixed limit. IOP at Clear Steps Recovery usually runs several weeks to a few months, and the length is set by your progress rather than by a calendar. Some people stay longer because work or family stress makes the structure valuable, others step down sooner to the Outpatient Program. Most plans cover IOP as outpatient behavioral health care, and admissions confirms the benefit with your carrier before you start.
What qualifies you for IOP?
A clinical assessment, not a checklist. Our licensed clinicians use the ASAM criteria, weighing your substance use, withdrawal risk, medical and mental health needs, and how stable home is. IOP fits adults who need structured treatment several days a week but are medically stable, have a safe place to live and can keep working or studying. People who need detox first or round-the-clock care start elsewhere and step into IOP afterward.
How many hours per day is IOP?
About three hours a session. Evening IOP meets Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 pm in Londonderry, four evenings and twelve hours a week. The daytime track meets during business hours up to five days a week for about nine to twelve hours in total. Nationally, the ASAM framework defines IOP as nine to nineteen hours a week. Individual counseling and medication visits are scheduled around the group sessions.
Can you work during IOP?
Yes, and most of our IOP clients do. The evening track exists for exactly that: groups start at 6 pm, after a normal workday, and there are no daytime program hours. Clients move between the daytime and evening tracks when a shift or school schedule changes. Nothing about your treatment is shared with an employer without your written consent, and if you use employer insurance the carrier processes the claim like any other medical claim.
What can I expect in an IOP program?
Group therapy several times a week, individual sessions with a master's-level clinician, family involvement when you want it, and medication-assisted treatment when it fits your plan. Sessions cover managing stress and cravings, rebuilding relationships, understanding mental health and practical relapse prevention. You go home after every session and put the skills to work the same day. Your plan is reviewed as you go, and the step down to outpatient care is planned before IOP ends.
What is the cost of outpatient rehab like IOP?
IOP is billed per session, at roughly half the weekly amount of Day Treatment, with no room and board, which is why outpatient care costs a fraction of a residential stay. What you pay depends on your deductible, copay or coinsurance and whether we are in network with your plan. Admissions verifies your benefits at no cost and gives you a specific figure before anything is scheduled. See our cost and payment page for the full picture.
